An Introduction to Augustine's Confessions

Unspecified references are to Albert Outler's translation of Augustine's Confessions, by book, chapter and paragraph. For example, 1,6,7 refers to book 1, chapter 6, paragraph 7. Outler's translation is also available from amazon.com: as a Barnes & Noble Classic, in a Dover Thrift Edition and as an Audio CD read by Simon Vance.

Three other translations of the Confessions: by Henry Chadwick (1991); by Maria Boulding (2003); by Garry Wills (2006).

In 1997, Jostein Gaarder published Vita Brevis. It's a letter to Saint Augustine from his de facto wife: she had her own views about his conversion.
